Jansen Gomes from Checkmat made his way through the middleweight division to take gold at the 2021 Pans in Orlando, Florida. Then he came back again and did it in absolute.

Jansen is a native of Rio de Janeiro where he trains at the Checkmat HQ in Copacabana alongside his older brother, Jonata, and his father, who is also a Checkmat black belt.

This year we can expect to see him in more competitions in the U.S. as he has finally decided to apply for the highly coveted “athlete visa” that allows Brazilians to live in the U.S. for more than the 6 months allowed with the typical tourist visa.

Not only can you find all of his matches on Flograppling, they were also able to catch him in what may very well be his first interview in English.
