The mission of Favela Jiu Jitsu is to document the process of athletes like Fernando Terere that rose from the margins of society to succeed. He opened the door for countless athletes, showing them that their dreams were valid, and their hard work would pay off.
We sell t-shirts to support our mission but SALES are not they key to success, SKILLS are!
Our mission is to amplify the voices of marginalized communities but DESIRE is not enough. We all have a story but we need to know HOW to tell that story… We need the right SKILLS!
How will you say it, who will you tell, where will you tell them, how will they see it! All these things matter, ask any athlete trying to rise in the rankings, they’ll tell you.
Creating Our Content Team
So in 2019, we stepped back from competition coverage to focus on generating sustainable careers in our community. Journalism is an art that allows us to take control of our own narratives, and that’s what our team has been up to. Teaming up with content creators to amplify the voices of marginalized communities on mainstream platforms.

In 2020, Jonata Samambaia joined the team to lead the production of Favela Jiu Jitsu products in Brazil. Samambaia also produces content for our blog as well as handles event coverage! He is the man behind the IG Lives, and will soon be launching our first Podcast , all while learning to run the administrative aspects of the company.
In 2021, Favela Jiu Jitsu teamed up with Alivisual production in Sao Paulo.
Alivisual is an audio/visual company that has previously worked with a lot of up and coming music artists in Sao Paulo. Now we’re bringing their expertise to the projects! The team has not only done coverage of major events like ADCC Trials and AJP Tour, they are also taking the time to visit social projects, meet the kids, and sit down with the instructors! We can’t wait to bring you more stories through the lens of Alivisual creative, Leandro Louzeiro.

This year, we’re expanding our reach, teaming up with companies like Arena Jiu Jitsu to help amplify the voices of the FAVELA.
