“We say that because its important to remember these realities.”
A FATHER’S MESSAGE TO HIS SON
Fernando “Reals” Restrepo has spent his life in service to others. He’s an educator, activist, and BJJ Black Belt that has been serving the community for years.
He’s taught kids on Rikers Island in a traditional classroom setting, currently works in the NY school system, actively protests against oppression, and teaches BJJ to local youth free of charge.
Nico Ball met Fernando while she was living in Rio and training with Terere. Reals came down to Brazil with his whole family to train with Terere at his social project and Rico Vieira at Checkmat.
Then he took the knowledge he picked up in Rio back to kids in the Bronx.
On June 20th, Fernando and his family took to the streets with a group of brave kids who aren’t willing to let adults mess up their future. Together with his son, they marched to the Gracie Mansion demanding equal rights and respect for black lives.
If your in New York in can catch Fernando at Bronx BJJ or teaching Unlimited Martial Arts Brooklynn on Saturday.s
